Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about HEIC files and our free browser-based converter.

What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default camera format for iPhone and iPad. It offers better compression than JPEG - meaning smaller files at the same visual quality - but has limited support outside of Apple's ecosystem.
Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows doesn't include native HEIC support. You can either install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store or simply convert your HEIC files to JPG or PNG using our free tool - no installation required.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone?
Open this website in Safari on your iPhone, tap the upload zone, and select photos from your camera roll. The conversion runs in Safari, and you can save the resulting JPG files to your device. No app to install.
Is my data safe? Are my photos uploaded to a server?
Your files are never uploaded anywhere. All conversion happens locally inside your browser using JavaScript. We have no access to your photos, filenames, or any content from your device.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Yes - up to 20 files per session. Select or drag multiple HEIC files at once. After conversion, download each file individually. Click "Convert more" to start a new batch.
What's the difference between JPG and PNG?
JPG uses lossy compression: smaller files, works everywhere, perfect for sharing photos online. PNG uses lossless compression: larger files, no quality loss, supports transparency - ideal for graphics, screenshots, and images you'll edit further.
Does this work on Android?
Yes. The converter works in any modern browser including Chrome and Firefox on Android. If you have HEIC files stored on your Android device (received from an iPhone user), open the site and select the files from your storage.
How do I stop my iPhone from shooting in HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and select "Most Compatible". Your iPhone will then save new photos as JPG instead of HEIC. This does not convert existing HEIC photos already on your device.
Is this service free?
Yes, completely free. No hidden fees, no subscription, no registration. Core conversion will always be free.
